As responsible green citizens of the planet Earth, it is our duty to explore all sorts of options in regards to how we move around on this globe of ours. In an attempt to lessen our individual carbon footprints, many of us have recognized that driving less may help this mess we’re in. So we carpool, ride bikes, or hop on a bus or subway. We roller blade, walk, skateboard, run, or scoot. We buy Priuses and electric vehicles and cars that run on vegetable oil. And some of us share. Yes, indeed here in Los Angeles, a car-sharing program exists. You may have seen one of the 100-plus cars putt-putting around our metropolis. You’ll know them by the words Flexcar printed on the side of vehicles such as the Honda Civic or Prius or even one of the minivans or Mini Cooper convertibles.
It works like this: FlexCar has put cars all over the city in designated parking spots. Its members can use these cars any time they are available. The FlexCar fee of yearly membership cost plus $10 an hour covers everything. This includes insurance, car payments, and gas. Yes, gas! No matter how many miles you go. Then you simply park in its spot when you’re done and the next person gets to use it.
Now, I got a message from my friend, Walter King, who manages the Los Angeles region of FlexCar and they are doing some mad promotion deal right now so I’ve decided to hop on it.
