Venice’s Green Light District

If you’ve happened past the corner of Venice Blvd. and Abbot Kinney on many a weekend night, then you might recall epOxybOx — a funky, eco-inclined art gallery known for throwing swanky soirees for art openings and environmentally and socially-conscious causes.

At the epOxybOx gallery, owner and curator Deborah Guyer Greene has long supported artists focusing on green themes, like Dianna Cohen who quilts plastic bag tapestries, and Carolyn Mendoza, who sculpts metalworks inspired by nature.

This month, the aptly named Greene, along with partner Sasha King, aims to turn the Abbot Kinney gateway into an eco-lifestyle hub, with the launch of a new green home and design emporium, plus an outdoor weekend marketplace.

EpOxyGreen, the new lifestyle store, will vend organic décor and apparel, alt-powered transport, and people and planet-friendly furniture and building materials. You can check it all out while sipping libations from the organic martini bar this Saturday, March 3, at the epOxyGreen launch party, which is free and open to the public.

Or wander down to the Sustainable Sundays marketplace on March 4 (and every subsequent first and third Sunday of the month). The outdoor event draws eco-friendly vendors, local musicians and free community seminars dedicated to sustainable education. A sample of this Sunday’s lineup includes: Children’s Ecological Workshop (10 am - noon), Sustainable Design and Building Materials 101 (1 pm), and Organic Wine Tasting (4 - 5 pm).

Worldchanging LA has it on good authority that the foxy epOxy ladies are looking to lease the bungalows across the street from the new epOxyGreen to a likeminded business or organization. So if you’re a greenie looking for a Westside home, contact epOxybOx to keep Venice’s burgeoning green light district glowing.
