Hydrocalypse

Manitoba and Manitoba Hydro are now committed to investing $5 Billion in building the Conowapa hydro electric project over the next 18 years - at a time when the market viability is questionable, hydroelectric megaprojects are getting fingered for massive methane emissions, and the impact on norther communities is stirring controversey (again).

Major projects always have hurdles - that's a given. But three questions about the fundamental benefits underwriting the project make me think were in for a few years of Spirited Debate.

I wonder what alternatives might be proposed? Do, for instance, microhydro turbines produce less methane?
