Leif Utne

Leif Utne is a journalist, activist, musician and social entrepreneur. In October, he joined our team as Publisher, and is primarily responsible for business development for the Worldchanging website.

Prior to joining Worldchanging, Leif spent eight years on the staff of Utne Reader magazine, which was founded by his father, Eric Utne. He still hosts and produces the magazineÕs UtneCast podcast, a biweekly interview show featuring independent perspectives on arts, culture and ideas.

At the magazine, Leif served in a variety of editorial and business roles, including Webmaster, Online Managing Editor, Associate Editor and most recently Staff Writer. Leif also worked closely with the groundbreaking online community Cafe Utne -- now an independent nonprofit organization called the New CafŽ, of which he is a board member -- organizing discussions with authors and readers, and consulting to a wide range of clients on their online community-building efforts.

Leif still writes regularly for both Utne and his own blog on topics like activism, globalization, technology, the environment, and Latin American politics. In 2001, he was named a "New Media Hero" by AlterNet.org, and his article ÒDonÕt Cry for ArgentinaÓ was picked as one of Project CensoredÕs Top 25 Censored Stories of 2003.

In 2004, Leif co-founded the (Let's Talk America project, a nationwide initiative to heal the political chasm in the United States through bridging conversations.
