Jon Lebkowsky is an authority on social media, web community, technoculture, and effective web strategy. He is also knowledgeable of Internet policy and trends. He is an author and
blogger, and confounder/strategist at
Social Web Strategies, a sustainability-focused web consulting and production firm based in Austin, Texas.
He was cofounder and CEO of one of the first virtual corporations, FringeWare, Inc. He's hosted several conferences on the
WELL, worked as a writer and host at Howard Rheingold's Electric Minds, and moderated chat events at Wired Magazine's web site, HotWired. In 1997-2000 he helped Whole Foods Market coordinate the development of their Internet, intranet, and e-commerce initiatives. He's written for publications such as Wired Magazine, Mondo 2000, 21C, Whole Earth Review, Fringe Ware Review, and the Austin Chronicle.

Jon is President of EFF-Austin, Vice President of Austin Wireless, a member of the Digital Convergence Initiative Board of Directors, the Solar Austin Board of Directors, and the Advisory Board for the annual South by Southwest Interactive conference. He led a research project on the
economic impact of wireless telecommunications for IC², an Austin, Texas think tank associated with the University of Texas. He is a core collaborator at
Bootstrap Austin, and leader of the Bootstrap Web and Community Subgroups.
