Green Bakery
Alex Steffen, 23 Jan 06

Green businesses and buildings are sprouting up right and left these days, but it's still both useful and fun to note the stand-outs. Take, for instance, the Green Bakery (a.k.a. the Birdbath Bakery). Not only does this fine new establishment sell organic baked goods, they've also gone bright green in their remodeling and decor, incorporating cork flooring, wheat board walls and low-VOC paints, "plyboo" instead of plywood, recycled wallpaper and other eco-savvy touches.

It won't bring on a sustainable future all on it's own (for that we need green power, compact communities, superhybrid cars and the whole package of systemic innovations we cover here) but a world full of more Green Bakeries would be at least slightly better off, and considerably yummier.
