LEMUR
Alex Steffen, 27 Oct 04

I'm not as big a fan of robots as some here -- for instance I have neither designed a biorobot dog nor advocated citizenship for intelligent androids -- but I do find musical robots weirdly compelling. Culture and tools, after all, are what make us human, and tools which make culture seem to me to an oddly touching expression of early 21st Century ethusiasm for technology. So it was with great enthusiasm that I wandered across LEMUR, the League of Electonic Musical Urban Robots.

Oh, yeah! I saw some LEMUR 'bots at an Eyebeam event last year: Artbots. http://artbots.org/2003/

There were several musical robots there. I liked Lev, "a machine for playing a theremin," a lot, although that might have a lot to do with my sentimental weakness for theremins.
